The Mont-Aux Sources Challenge is a trail run set in the Royal Natal National Park, in the northern parts of the Drakensberg. Runners are treated to some of the most spectacular views in the country. It’s a 50 kilometer trail run, with an elevation gain of over 2000 meters.
The event aims to raise funds that are then directly invested back into the Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Site- an area homed to the extremely endangered Bearded Vulture. There are thought to be less than 100 breading pairs of these incredible birds left, the vast majority of which live in this area.
For us, covering an event like this meant ridiculously early mornings, hauling gear up in the mountains in hiking packs, and catching runners at the right spots and the right times along the way. It always means a lot to us when we get the opportunity to contribute to something with such purpose behind it. Let us know what you think of our coverage in the comments below.
